Gauteng is at it again: the east capital


Modderfontein City 1South Africa, arguably the best country in Africa is developing at the speed of light and is one of the fastest developing countries in the world. The two biggest cities which is the capital city Pretoria and the richest city Johannesburg have in recent time gone head to head to show which is the mightier between the two.


Development in Gauteng took a massive boost when the famous Sandton (the richest square mile in Africa) in 2014 announced the modderfontein city which is being built by Hong Kong listed company shanghai zendai worth a staggering R84 billion.

CommercialWhilst The capital city, Pretoria is developing a new Mega development Dubbed “The East Capital”. The Hazeldean development is a R44 billion project adopted and approved by the Tshwane metropolitan. The project is being developed by the Hazeldean Consortium, comprising of development giant Abland and Sable Homes.


Tshwane mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa  has voiced that the ambitious plan seeks to make the far eastern area of the metropolitan to be self-contained and create job opportunities for inhabitants living in the surrounding area of among others, Bronkhorstspruit, Cullinan, Tweefontein and Donkerhoek areas.

Several developments in the Hazeldean and its peripheries have already been completed such as Hazeldean square shopping centre, office parks, two schools and a retirement village.

heazeldean City-layout“Apart from already completed developments there is a huge interest from the market in Hazeldean – commercial, businesses, retailers, additional educational and hospitality brands,” said hendrik van Zyl, Abland development manager of the Hazeldean project.

According to van Zyl, the development will consist of Telkom lines and fibre solutions in place. The project will have internet access amongst other thing, “we offer telephony, data and IPTV to our residents, and we are expanding on this model as it becomes feasible on the various developments,” Van Zyl said.

The development will impact the social life of the people living in and around Hazeldean which will also benefit the South African economy at large. Such projects besides being a business idea, they improve the statute of the city and attracts possible investors to boost the local economy.
