GIST Tech-I Competition, Apply NOW!!!

The Department of Science and Technology is encouraging scientists and startup owners in agriculture, health, education and tech to enter the 2015 Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) Technology-Idea (Tech-I) Competition.

GIST is organised by the American Association for the Advancement of Science(AAAS) and the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs of the United States Department of State invites youths between the ages of 18 and 40 from 86 countries around the world to submit their entries for a chance to win funding money for their idea or startup and a grand cash prize.

Thirty entrants will be selected via public vote and will then be flown down to a yet-to-be announced Sub-Saharan African country to take part in the Global Entrepreneurship Summit where they’ll showcase themselves and get training from mentors.

The winner will receive up to $70 000 (R840 000) in funding for their idea or startup.

To enter, you’ll have to submit a 750-word summary describing your idea or startup as well as a 90-second promotional video which should highlight the value and purpose of the product or service to customers.

Entries must be submitted to the GIST website before 20th March.
