“You voted for change, and now change has come.”
-President-Elect Muhammadu Buhari
Nigerian President-Elect Muhammadu Buhari does an exclusive interview with CNN’s correspondent Christiane Amanpour following his win at the recent elections. This is Buhari’s second time leading Nigeria, and he promises to address the issues that the previous ruling party failed to correct.
Buhari was first ruled into power by a military coup in 1983 and later ousted by another military coup in 1985, since then this would be counted as his third attempt to rule the nation.
His background in the military has raised a few concerns, especially with the nations current situation concerning the Boko Haram, however the majority seems to think that his experience will bring about a difference to the country that is so desperate for change. He beat the ruling party by more than 2 million votes making history, the first where the opposition defeats the ruling party in democratic elections.
It is evident that Buhari has his work cut out for him, however it seems the retired 72- year old military general is ready for the challange. His discipline and zero tolerance for corruption and terrorism indicates a new leash for the strongest economy in Africa.
He will be sworn in on May 29, as a successor to President Goodluck Jonathan who has ‘conceded defeat’.
