Not Just The 2015 World Green Car, But A Beauty

The BMW i8 has been declared as the 2015 World Green Car at the New York International Show. This 2-door coupe, was designed by Mario Majdandzic (Exterior Design) and Jochen Paesen (Interior Design), produced by Benoit Jacob.

This electronic coupe has won various awards. In July 2012 the BMW i8 won the 2012 North American Concept Vehicle of the Year. The BMW i8 Spyder won the 2013 Best Production Preview Vehicle award. It was selected as Auto Blog’s 2014 Technology of the Year. Top Gear Magazine awarded the i8 with their coveted Car of the Year award for 2014. Green Car Journal awarded the BMW i8 with its 2015 Luxury Green Car of the Year. The i8 won Auto Guide’s 2015 Reader’s Choice +Car of the Year and it was also awarded the United Kingdom Car of the Year 2015, and also United Kingdom Performance Car of the Year 2015. Now, it has been declared as the 2015 World Green Car at the New York International Show.

This mini beauty deserves these awards. The BMW i8 can go from 0-100 in 4.4 seconds, and has a top speed of 256. Its fuel efficiency is 2.1 L/ 100km. Apart from this; its outer appearance can leave a person in awe with its butterfly doors, rear-view camera’s and partially false engine noise.

The Road to the BMW i8 winning the World Green Car began in Paris on October 2, 2014, followed by a stop in Los Angeles for a test-drive of the North American contenders in November of last year. The “Top Three in the World” finalists were announced at the Geneva International Auto Show in March. The journey ended at the New York International Auto Show where the winners were declared to the world.6770

The BMW i8 was chosen from an initial entry list of 10 new global vehicles, then a short list of three finalists that included the winning BMW i8 as well as the Mercedes-Benz S 500 Plug-In Hybrid and the Volkswagen Golf GTE were on the road to World Green Car being announced in New York.

The winners of this category are chosen by five green experts who are familiar with these new technologies who are appointed annually by the World Car Awards Steering Committee to extensively review all documentation and specs associated with each car.

For the BMW i8 and the other finalists to be eligible for the 2015 World Green Car award, the vehicles must be all-new, or substantially revised, in production and introduced for sale or lease. Then the five judges take into account the vehicles tailpipe emissions, fuel consumption, and use of a major advanced power plant technology (beyond engine componentry), aimed specifically at increasing the vehicle’s environmental responsibility.

When all this had been looked into, the 75 World Car Awards jurors then voted on the expert’s recommendations and their ballots were tabulated by the international accounting firm KPMG.

After experts have spoken and all recommendations have been met by this beauty of the road, the BMW i8 sure does stand out from the rest and BMW fanatics have every reason to be ecstatic. A test-drive in this car could mean a destination close to heaven.
