As much as social media has made it simple for our generation to send messages across the globe, speaking about sending a message to space is on another level.
When motor company Hyundai heard that 13 year-old Stephanie from Houston, United States of America, was missing her father who is an Astronaut working at Nasa’s International Space Station, the company took it upon themselves to make her wish come true.
Hyundai, as part of their “A Message to Space” ad campaign, deployed 11 Hyundai Genesis sedans to Delamar dry lake in Nevada to help her send a message to her father in space. Crafting a message in giant lettering out of tire marks in the dusty terrain.
This publicity stunt by Hyundai did not only touch the hearts of Stephanie and her Father, but it has made it to the Guinness World Records as they have recognized the message as the largest tire-track image ever. At 2.1 square miles, Stephanie’s father could read the message from space.
Hyundai said that writing the girls message to her father, the Genesis brigade had to drive in “perfect synchronization”.
The new campaign, “A Message to Space,” was a collaborative effort from experts in Korea, Europe and the U.S. The crew had to find the best areas for the message based on geographical and meteorological factors, the automaker said.
The experts journeyed to several locations before settling on Delamar Dry Lake.
“Steph loves you!” reads the note, carefully driven into a large patch of sand.
“Keeping in line with Hyundai Motor’s corporate vision of being a ‘lifetime partner in automobiles and beyond’, the campaign highlights our philosophy of caring for customers through emotional interaction and becoming a brand beyond simply a means of transportation,” Scott Noh, head of Hyundai Motor Co.’s overseas marketing group, said in a statement. “Although sending a message to space with our Genesis cars was not an easy challenge, it enabled us to demonstrate our caring vision to our customers.”
Talk about killing two birds with one stone. In this case, three birds were killed. Hyandai made their mark, Stephanie’s wish came true and her Astronaut father’s heart was reached in space.
