Local Acts AKA and The Soil take Mzansi to the US…
It is no secret that African musicians are becoming more popular in the global musical scene, and purely because our artists have a certain level of uniqueness and originality that they bring to the scene.
The nominations for the highly anticipated BET (Black Entertainment) Awards have come out, and some of the best black entertainers in the world have been nominated.
We are proud to announce that South African rapper AKA and acapella trio, The Soil have been nominated for the BET Awards 2015 under the category ‘Best International Act’. These South African acts will be competing against Fally Ipupa (DRC), Sarkodie Ghana), Sauti Sol (Kenya), Stonebwoy Ghana), Wizkid Nigeria) and Yemi Alade Nigeria). Social Media was abuzz when the nominations were officially announced on May 18, 2015, with fans from all over the country congratulating AKA and The Soil for a job well done.
In 2013 Nigerian hip hop artist Ice Prince took the award home, and in 2014 the award went to Nigerian artist Davido. He competed against Diamond Platinumz (Tanzania), Sarkodie (Ghana), Mafikizolo (South Africa), Tiwa Savage Nigeria) and Toofan (Togo).
We are yet to see a South African scoop the award, we certainly rally behind The Soil and AKA, and we hope that one of them brings it home!
