Gourmet Laughter – Food Network SA

It was a Foodgasm…

South Africa held the one of the biggest Food and Music festivals in the world this past weekend in Johannesburg and man did we eat and dance. Nunnovation had the honor of attending what I can dub the most exciting stand at the festival; this was the Food Network SA stand. The first instalment of the show was presented by Reza and Jenny, the funniest chefs ever, with the assistance of two audience members to prepare a gourmet Pap and steak meal and some mouth-watering desserts.

Jenny RezaJenny and Reza have a fun and interactive way of teaching the audience how to cook; they are not just chefs but comedians too. Just as they teaching you the best ways to make steak, they requested the DJ to play some music and they hit the dance floor along with a number of audience members while the steak cooked, and after all the fun and games, the food came out perfectly made, proving that cooking should not be boring and labor intense.
Jenny & Reza’s Fabulous Food Academy is a new series which is scheduled to hit television screens later this year. Six aspiring chefs are taken under the wings of the culinary stars and teach us the audience how to make yummy gourmet food through fun and laughter.

The gorgeous Siba Mtongana presented the second part of the show and she chose young Antonio to be her assistant chef, it was like watching Mother and Son cook up a storm while we listened to Siba tell us stories about her childhood and all the tricks she learnt in her mother’s kitchen growing up. “Guys you don’t have to use Broccoli anymore, it’s so old fashioned, the new trend is Broccolini” said Siba. Fashion and Technology are not the only industries with new trends as one can see, food is a whole movement on its own too.

Food Network SASiba

Siba has just finished shooting season 2 of Siba’s Table on the Food Network channel and it is also set to hit our screens later this year on DStv. Siba is a mother of two young ones yet she continues looking fabulous in the kitchen, as she says “presentation is everything darling”.

The celebrity chefs were so down to earth, they even took photos with every and interacted with us all. “You eat 1000 meals a year, trust me 1 bad meal won’t kill you honey” are wise words which Jenny has imprinted in my memory forever. To see the Food Network SA chefs in action visit the Food Network website or DStv for detailed schedules, it will be the best cooking shows you ever watched, innovative, insightful and very useful cooking tips and skills on your screens, what more could one ask for?
