Art on Fleek, don’t miss out!
It’s a chance for the world to experience African diversity through the arts, a chance for locals to market their skills, a platform for established and upcoming South African artists to collaborate and to network- yes, it’s almost time for the annual National Arts Festival hosted in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape from the 2nd to the 12th of July by Standard Bank.
Established 41 years ago, the National Arts Festival has become South Africa’s biggest arts festival. Every year around this time, thousands of people from all across the continent flock to the small town of Grahamstown to get first-hand experience of this premier event. Not only does this leading festival aim to entertain but it is also an initiative that helps create employment opportunities for locals. From the sensational sounds of Jazz, to premium theatre shows, to traditional sounds, dances and so much more- you’re in for a treat!
This year’s programme promises an exciting 10-day affair with performances from top African and international artists, actors and comedians. Young and upcoming South African musicians will also get an opportunity to work with established jazz musicians and educators during rehearsals, workshops and lectures- all in preparation for the Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Festival incorporated as part of the arts festival. You will also find stalls showcasing locally-made products such as crafts, pottery and different types of cultural food.
To end off the festival on a high note, there will be two award ceremonies taking place- the Standard Bank Ovation Awards and the Post Office Student Theatre Awards. Organisers will also be showing appreciation to journalists and media houses later in the year at the National Arts Festiva/BASA South African Journalism Awards, for the work that they do during the festival.
Nunnovation will be bringing you all the action live from Grahamstown on all our online media platforms. You don’t want to miss this!
