We live in a world where we are constantly plugged in,and in our generation it rarely makes a difference in our biology whether its day and night, which may be the reason why we need more technology and processes to remind us to switch, dim it down or induce certain light patterns, because naturally organisms on Earth are adapted to a 24hr Solar day, so yes, seeing as we are constantly on the go maybe we need assistance in reminding ourselves that our eyes need less light.

According to research conducted by T Bedrosian and R Nelson, “Predictable daily cycles of light and dark allow for the synchronization of behavioural and biological processes to the external environment. For humans, temporal organization of physiology is equally important for health and wellness”. Over the last century and the avid use of Cellphone devices and Laptops, it has come to light that electric light has obscured. Bedrosian and Nelson state that; “Circadian, which is the natural cycle of a 24hr solar process, has been severely disrupted within humans and wildlife.”

It is now apparent that the use of light has become increasingly prevalent especially within urban areas, which has a number of major health risks that humans may be prone to suffer. With the dawn of technology, we have been able to artificially extend the day, meaning our brains struggle to define the difference between day time and night time. Light in our bodily function is an entertainment cue used in the body to discriminate day and night, in simple terms our brains are not able to cue Melatonin, which is a hormone in our body we need in order to know it’s time to sleep.
